QEYS Energy

Developing QEYS Reserve, a refuelable on-site energy system for data centers facing grid and fuel-supply constraints.

Market and customer need

A campus needs continuous energy, timely capacity, backup, power quality, and a workable emissions pathway. Berkeley Lab projects U.S. data-center electricity use at 649 TWh in its 2030 reference case, compared with an estimated 192 TWh in 2024.

Grid supply, gas, nuclear, batteries, and diesel each address different parts of the problem. Compare alternatives · Read the forecast and range ↗

Product and integration path

QEYS Reserve would combine battery response with a solid-ammonia fuel reserve and compatible power conversion. Initial integration would use separate reserve conversion alongside grid or natural-gas supply.

Later work could evaluate useful engine heat and qualified natural-gas/ammonia-derived fuel operation. An independent startup and outage plan is required.

Technology and differentiation

QEYS Energy has acquired a proprietary methodology for solid-ammonia storage and controlled delivery, developed for diesel NOx emissions control. QEYS Reserve applies that industrial approach to a fuel reserve for critical computing.

The company’s focus is the storage and fuel-delivery system, its integration with compatible generation, and the operating knowledge needed to deploy it reliably.

Development and business model

  1. Validate storage and fuel-delivery duty cycles.
  2. Integrate conversion, battery, and site power interfaces.
  3. Demonstrate a controlled customer pilot.
  4. Qualify deployment, manufacturing, and service.

Proposed revenue includes equipment, replenishment, maintenance, and controls support. Performance and economics remain to be established.
